- The Battle Of Midway- 4 June 1942: Hoping to catch the the American fleet in the open, Marshal Admiral Yamamoto thinking that the Americans had only 2 operational ships, launched a campaign for the midway atoll with 4 carriers, 2 battle ships, and 264 aircraft. fortunately the US had broken the Japanese communication codes and sent 3 carriers,15 destroyers, 16 submarines, 360 aircraft, and 1 anti aircraft cruiser. ultimately it was a crushing blow to the Japanese Naval forces who had remained undefeated seance 1863.
- Battle of France-10 may 1940 under the command of the Fuhrer the Nazis made a reach to claim France, and with that would come the English channel. this plan was inevitably a success for it took the Nazis a mere 42 days to overcome all of France.
- Operation Overlord- 6 June 1944, perhaps the most significant battles of the war, operation overlord aka D-day was a critical moment for the allies; it was the plan to take back Europe and end the Nazi threat with a surprise attack on Normandy, France. with the deployment of over 12000 planes, 7000 vessels, and 160000 troops, the Allies managed to take the beaches of Normandy, but not without heavy casualties. 425000 casualties on both sides combined. this was considered a striking blow to the Nazis.
- Battle of Guadalcanal- 7 August 1942 in an attempt to prevent the Japanese from taking more territories. it was a gruesome bitter war of attrition that lasted 6 months. using sneak attacks the Japanese slowly cut at US troops until they were finally driven off the island.
- Battle of Leyte Gulf- 23 October 1944 Leyte Gulf this battle is renowned for being the largest naval battle of WWII. the IJN (Imperial Japanese Navy) and the USN (United States Navy) go at each other for the Philippines. the IJN had over 67 ships including 4 carriers and 9 battleships, while the USN had just under a staggering 800 ( 550 of witch were small patrol boats and over the coarse of 3 days the us pulled an allied Victory.
- Battle of Moscow- 2 October 1941 Germany using Blitzkrieg tactics plowed through the soviet defense straight into Moscow. in a strategic move the soviets took out the trains with the much needed supplies, grinding the Germans to a stand still. the Russians, now used to running on little to no supplies took the advantage and made a Soviet victory.
- Battle of Kursk- a true monument to all out war. 5 July 1943 this was a truly a full scale battle, and a crippling blow to the defensive capabilities of the third Reich. the Nazis having just under 1 million men, 3000 tanks, and 2000 aircraft made an attempt to capture more Russian territory. but to the true nature of Russia the came at the Germans with just under 2 million men, 5000 tanks, and 3500 aircraft. while the Germans had superior technology on their side, the Russians had pure numbers and willingness to fight.
- Operation Barbarossa- Operation Barbarossa was the Nazis plan to invade the Soviet union. all together it was a series of smaller battles leading to the Reich's ultimate failure.
- Battle of Stalingrad-12 September 1942 the battle of Stalingrad was the definition of soviet endurance. 270 thousand Germans against 187 thousand million Russians. this was a cold bloody winter war. the soviets had lost so many men that equipment and weapons were not even issued to the soldiers. so they simply made pikes. then charged head on into German fire. 3 comrades would stack up on the one with a rifle that had no ammunition. this lasted for 5 months. but to the Germans surprise a soviet victory came forth.
- Battle of Britain- 10 July 1940 in an attempt to continue the blitzkrieg over Europe the Germans made an attempt to gain air superiority over the RAF (Royal Air Force) started a bombing campaign on Britain. To the Luftwaffe's surprise, the RAF's planes were much lighter and agile than their large cumbersome planes, causing many German casualties. The British also had the advantage of home turf had the ability to refuel and reload quickly. this was the first battle to be fought almost exclusively by aircraft.
